The Miko Group of Belgium is unusual for a number of reasons. Longevity is one attribute -- Miko was founded in 1801, making it 200 years old next year and among the very oldest of coffee companies in Europe. Stability would be another quality; the company was originally founded by the Michielsen family in the town of Turnhout, (where it is still located), and although it has been listed on the Brussels Stock Exchange since 1998, the Michielsens retain 55% of Group shares and family members are active in management to this day.
There are, however, numerous old, family controlled coffee companies to be found across the map of Europe, let alone in Belgium itself. ...
