This was the second round of negotiations between the Chinese team, led by Long Yongtu, Vice-Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operation, and the Commission's 15-strong team, headed by Hans-Friedrich Beseler, Director-General for Trade. European Trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy had cleared his agenda for the end of the week, and signalled that if there was further progress in the negotiations, he was ready to fly to Beijing to tie up the deal.
