Fresh details have emerged about the US Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) line of attack in challenging BP Amoco's takeover of Arco, even as the antitrust agency considers the UK oil major's last-ditch proposal for a settlement.
Assuming that the case still ends up in a San Francisco court March 20 as scheduled, the agency plans to grill two BP trading executives on their strategy for Alaska crude oil supply. It will also rely on supportive testimony from officials at Equilon, the Shell-Texaco downstream venture; independent California refiner Paramount; and, on upstream issues in Alaska, Shell's business development unit in Texas.
