Irish politicians, pubs and parades have always been mainstays in Boston. But today the Irish culture is appreciated even by those who can't claim an ancestor from the Emerald Isle. Popular culture abounds with works like "Lord of the Dance" and "Riverdance," and Frank McCourt's book "Angela's Ashes," based on the writer's childhood in Limerick.
"Frank McCourt and 'Riverdance' helped our program," said Robert Savage, associate director of Irish Studies at Boston College. "Irish studies is booming. There's a renewed interest in Irish studies."
