INDIANAPOLIS - Nine months after playing their last game of the 1997-98 season, the Washington Wizards returned to the basketball court last night and measured themselves against the Indiana Pacers.
And they came up woefully short, withering in the second half on the way to a 96-81 loss at sold-out (16,621) Market Square Arena.
The Wizards, who dropped their sixth game in a row to the Pacers, had their moments. They rallied from a 12-point deficit in the second quarter to pull within 47-44 at halftime. And they even shook off a first half that saw them held without a free throw while Indiana took 23.
