After nine months of negotiations, Norway yesterday agreed to award a team led by Spain's Bazan and Lockheed Martin [LMT] a $1.2 billion contract for five frigates.
Last year, Norway selected the Bazan-Lockheed Martin team as the preferred supplier for the frigate program over rival bids from Germany's Blohm+Voss and Britain's BAE SYSTEMS (Defense Daily, May 14).
The decision to award the contract follows the recommendation of the chief of Norway's defense staff, Gen. Sigurd Frisvold.
