Professionalism and diversity in the practice of law go hand-in-hand "and you cannot really, truly be a professional if you are in the business of exclusion," according to Supreme Court Justice Peggy Quince.
Lawyer professionalism goes beyond ethics, and envelops "how we treat each other as just human beings," Justice Quince told a gathering of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers at the Bar's Midyear Meeting in Miami January 14. In a wide-ranging speech, the court's newest justice touched on topics including the challenges women lawyers face in balancing career and family and the need for women and minorities to apply for judicial vacancies.
