MAPLE GROVE, Minn.-Larry Schneiderman has a passion for books. And like many bibliophiles, one of his favorite haunts was Barnes & Noble, with its laid-back ambiance, coffee bar, sofas and wide aisles.
Schneiderman and his brother Russ, owners of Minneapolis-based Schneiderman's Furniture, wanted to convey those same feelings to their own customers. When they discovered that Martin Roberts, president of GRID2, was responsible for the Barnes & Noble store design, they went to the New York-based company for help with the look of their newest store.
This 35,000-square-foot store is the ninth for Schneiderman's, and it represents a new concept for this ...
