Jockey Pat Day thought he finally had Cat Thief figured out before he took back the mount aboard trainer D. Wayne Lukas' enigmatic colt for the Swaps Stakes at Hollywood Park last July.
"I came to the conclusion while talking to D. Wayne Lukas, and we both concurred, that the colt has a very short run - an explosive one, but a very short one," Day said earlier this weekwhile discussing Cat Thief's inability to sustain his stretch run to the wire.
Day, who concluded that Cat Thief couldn't be asked to run too early in a race, seemed to have found the key to the Lukas trainee.
