Zero tolerance policies at schools are increasingly being questioned by parents and interest groups. One recent incident, propelled into the headlines by Rev. Jesse Jackson, involved seven black students expelled from a Decatur, Illinois, high school for fighting at a football game. Other incidents have involved children who were suspended for bringing regular food knives for lunch or aspirin for self-medication in violation of school policies.
