Webster defines "mission" as a team of experts sent to render assistance or to perform a specific service or task. Originally, the term described a religious group, or missionaries, who were sent out in to the world to teach the scriptures. However, a more modern-day description would include a group of people charged with a responsibility. For the staff members on the neurosciences unit at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, either definition would apply. This group of neuroscience nurses took the responsibility of developing a mission statement for their nursing unit.
