Michael Picone's substantial volume will be welcomed by all those interested in monitoring recent trends in the development of the French lexis. His approach is to examine some of the formal mechanisms by which new expressions are created, rather than the semantic fields that have been principally affected, although the data supplied enables readers to draw their own conclusions in regard to the latter.
