LONDON - In the biggest fight of his often-frustrating 15-year pro career, Mickey Ward scored a sensational eighth-round knockout over previously unbeaten Shea Neary to win the WBU light welterweight title last night.
He was trailing on the scorecards, but the Lowell boxer had used his stock in trade - a punishing body attack highlighted by a pulverizing left hook - to wear down the champion, and when the end came, it came swiftly.
