Mar. 11--Local boat and RV dealers liked 1999 and predict sales in the year ahead that should maintain their good spirits.
Major dealers in Bakersfield contacted this week reported banner sales, and most had their most lucrative year ever. At Holiday RV Superstores West, a national chain, general manager Buddy Maltone said his store saw a 35 percent jump in sales over 1998.
Maltone attributed the sales explosion to a demographic shift in those buying campers, trailers and motor homes. It's all about the baby boomers, he said.
"People in their leisure time want something they can enjoy," he said.
