In its current condition, Gwadar is ideally suited for such type of ferries. No additional development work would be involved, as these ferries can dock in 2-3 metre deep water. A ferry costs around US$2-10 million and would recover its cost in three years. While working as Marine Captain in the Iranian Shopping Lines subsidiary, Valfajre-8 Company, I personally witnessed the growth of trade between Iran and the Gulf because of the efficient utility of these ferries. The Iranian company had started with just one ferry and is now the largest operator in the Gulf with 14 ferries, and is continuing to grow.
