Banc of America Securities is working to expand its retail municipal bond distribution network to include the two million retail customers who currently bank online with parent Bank of America.
The broker-dealer has started to develop a strategy for how to market to that audience and plans to have a system up and running before the end of this year, according to Roger Hayes, the longtime public finance banker and former head of the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board who is leading the firm's e-commerce effort.
"With that kind of reach, it's very easy to put a button on the screen where customers can plug into municipal bonds," Hayes said.
