Two humpback whales leap out of the ocean. They rocket up and twist their bodies around. Then they crash back down with humongous splashes. What in the world is going on?
What the whales are doing is called breaching. It's just one of many humpback antics. Rolling on their backs and slapping the surface with their heads, tails, and flippers--humpbacks are real show-offs.
Why all the fancy moves? Nobody knows for sure. It could be these are ways the whales communicate with each other.
