A new coalition of state government leaders called "States for Passenger Rail" met for the first time in Washington, D.C., yesterday to map out strategies to gain federal support for intercity passenger rail initiatives. Leaders of seventeen state departments of transportation from throughout the nation have pledged their support to the coalition, and several more states are maintaining a close interest in the group.
