QUEEN ISABELLA, considered by many a champion for Coventry, was the wife of Edward II.
This lady, popularly acknowledged as being most beauteous, suffered greatly at the hands of her husband, who showered his attention and her jewellery on his homosexual lover, Piers Gaveston.
After the murder of Gaveston on Blacklow Hill, near Warwick, the king and queen for a time appeared to grow closer and Isabella gave birth to the future Edward III, followed by three more children.
