If the legendary James Brown was the godfather of soul, then Kool Herc was the godfather of hip hop, creating the backbone to a music whose global influence has been profound. Unfortunately few people have heard of him but that's about to change as the gargantuan Herc is here in Britain for a DJ exhibition.
