CW has learned that dow chemical and Repsol-YPF are studying a shared ethylene capacity expansion at Tarragona, Spain.
The two companies operate identical liquid feed crackers, designed and built by Linde, at Repsol's Tarragona refinery. However, Repsol's plant maximizes propylene output and Dow optimizes ethylene production. The companies aim to cooperate in running the two existing olefins plants, and jointly build a 250,000-m.t./year cracker that would consume recycle streams, including ethane, propane, and liquified petroleum gas, from the two existing plants.
