BLOWN-OFF EXEC MAY BANK ON WINDY CITY
Marc Shapiro, passed over last year for the top spot at Chase Manhattan Corp., is emerging as the lead candidate to run Bank One Corp., the troubled financial services giant based in Chicago.
Sources say that Mr. Shapiro, a vice chairman at Chase, appears to be at the head of a shortlist of some four to nine candidates and that a decision is due by mid-May.
Mr. Shapiro made his reputation at Chemical Bank, when he turned around its big Texas operation, and came to New York after Chemical merged with Chase. He was one of several contenders to succeed Walter Shipley as Chase's chief executive but lost out to ...
