IT WAS lunchtime, and I was working away on my column, toying with jokes about the size of Pauline Collins's bottom in The Ambassador and the choice of music for Roy and Hayley's wedding reception in Coronation Street.
Then suddenly someone shouted across the newsroom: "We think Jill Dando's been murdered."
My fingers froze on my keyboard. I couldn't take it in. This simply did not compute.
No sentence with Jill Dando in it could possibly contain the words murder. Could it?
