HUNDREDS of criminal cases, including the Lockerbie trial, could be in jeopardy after a court yesterday blew apart the credibility of fingerprint evidence.
A High Court jury took less than an hour to acquit a policewoman of perjury in a case that centred on a fingerprint on a door frame.
Four senior Scottish experts said the print belonged to Detective Constable Shirley McKie, and proved she lied on oath when she said she had never been to a murder scene.
But the defence produced a team of alternative experts from the USA, who insisted the print could not be McKie's.
