EXHAUSTED and hungry, the rescue teams refused to give up hope.
Occasionally, a cry of joy would go up as a child was found alive in the rubble of Turkey's ruined cities.
But all too often victims were dragged out dead and carried away in grim silence.
The massive earthquake has left nearly 4,000 killed, 18,000 injured and 13,000 missing.
Weary rescuers continued to tear at the debris with bare hands and makeshift tools in their desperate search for survivors.
