They're impersonal, often frustrating and suffer lots of abuse, but vending machines are a fact of life in the workplace and on the High Street.
And they have been around for a long time, long enough for the trade association which represents the interests of their manufacturers and suppliers to be chalking up its 70th anniversary this year.
Currently some 330,000 refreshment vending machines are providing hot and cold beverages, sandwiches, snacks, confectionery and meals to British consumers.
