Some bellowed, some bickered, some berated the crassness of it all. But words seemed little protection against the wind of change blowing through the South Wing of the Palace of Westminster last night.
Hereditary peers, some of great antiquity, and their fellow "lifers", shuffled through the division lobbies to take the House of Lords to death's door and ultimate extinction in its present form.
