Sir, - Dr Innes makes a fair point about the Michael Ashcroft affair (Post, Jul 28). Councillor Lines has made a speciality out of gutter politics and I suppose we might as well just get used to it.
He shares his hypocrisy, however, with William Hague and that is a much more serious matter. Hague's vow never again to accept massive donations from outside the UK is revealed as humbug.
Older and wiser heads in the party have urged Hague to clear the air by putting the matter before the new ethics and integrity committee of the party. Hague's refusal shows that ...
