The prosecution in the trial of family doctor Harold Shipman did not have to prove a motive for murder, the judge told the jury yesterday.
Summing up on the 42nd day of the case at Preston Crown Court, Mr Justice Forbes said that neither motive nor pre-meditation were essential elements for murder to be proved.
