For most of us, crossing our fingers and hoping for a lottery win seems like the only chance of getting rich quickly.
But for thousands of people in Britain, pots of cash are gathering dust in a bank or insurance vault, all because they have forgotten to claim them.
This week, the Alliance and Leicester has revealed that about 70,000 account holders have yet to come forward to claim pounds 100 million of windfalls following the building society's conversion to bank status in 1997.
