Belgium's chemicals giant Solvay Group confirmed that it is selling its Brazilian subsidiary Companhia Brasileira Carbureto de Calcio (CBCC) to Dow Corning corp. of the US. CBCC manufactures and markets ferrosilicon and metallic silicon, activities which are not core for Solvay. Dow Corning Corp. is the biggest user of metallic silicon in the world, this product being used for the manufacturing of silicone-based solutions for various applications, ranging from oil refining to waste treatment.
