How much should we mourn the passing of the Encyclopaedia Britannica in book form? Yesterday friends, relatives and pushy salesmen gathered to pay tribute to the institution after it announced it had printed its last volume (Number 19 Utilitarianism to Zwingli).
From now on the famous reference books, which contain 44 million words and 65,000 articles, will only be available on CD-Rom or by subscription to the Britannica's website (www.eb.com).
