It has been said that all book collectors begin with George Cruikshank and always end with him.
Certainly, Cruikshank is featured in a forthcoming sale of illustrated books at Sotheby's next week. He was one of the best loved and most renowned political caricaturists of the Regency period.
He was already an established cartoonist when very young and he came from a talented artistic family as the second son of the caricaturist Issac Cruikshank and he was the brother of Robert Cruikshank.
