Shadow Home Secretary Sir Norman Fowler yesterday accused the Government of weakening its commitment to the police and cutting the number of officers on the beat.
Speaking in the Commons, Sir Norman (Con Sutton Coldfield) said Government policy in the battle against crime was going in the wrong direction.
