Former Conservative Cabinet high-flier Jonathan Aitken could face jail after pleading guilty to committing perjury in the High Court.
He admitted the offence at the Old Bailey along with a charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The charges followed Aitken's failed libel action against the Guardian newspaper and Granada Television in June 1997.
