Mar. 23--The director of troubled Detroit Metro Airport said Wednesday he will step down after a 2-year tenure that included improved customer service, but saw increased scrutiny of the airport's legacy of jobs and no-bid contracts for the well-connected.
Dave Katz, a top adviser to Wayne County Executive Ed McNamara, announced his resignation from the $131,663-a-year job at a morning staff meeting. His resignation is effective May 1.
McNamara is expected to name a new Wayne County airports director as early as next week.
Katz's resignation ends a 15-year political association with McNamara, but the two will remain business partners.
