Mar. 17--Over the past half century, the Tennessee Valley Authority has harnessed the Tennessee River for power production, navigation and recreation.
But 67 years after its creation, TVA is still battling conflicting currents over how to use the river.
A new Regional Resource Stewardship Council began meeting Friday to help TVA balance those competing interests. But the opening session of the advisory panel quickly demonstrated the competing interests for the river.
"The only thing the governor told me when he appointed me to this panel was to get our lake levels up," said Bill Forsyth, chairman of the Murphy, N.C. Electric Power Board.
