THE new chief executive officer of Spoornet, South Africa, Mr Zandile Jakavula, who took over from Mr Braam Le Roux on February 1, has already announced a major reorganisation of the railway which is expected to lead to some form of privatisation. This represents a change of direction for Spoornet.
Jakavula has decided to split Spoornet into six business units: general freight, bulk transport, mainline passenger, branch lines, the Richards Bay coal line, and the Sishen Saldanha iron-ore line.
