Plans to develop an integrated light rail and heavy rail networks in Luxembourg have suffered a setback as a result of recent political changes.
LUXEMBOURG's Bus Tram Rail (BTB) project involves building 17km of light rail lines in Luxembourg city as part of a new 199km regional network which would allow mixed operation by dual-mode LRVs over existing heavy rail track.
The ambitious LuxFr 20 billion ($US 486 million) project seemed set to go ahead following the completion of technical, financial, and marketing studies, as well as the publication of the proposed BTB routes together with technical specifications in spring 1998. However, its fate now hangs ...
