Younger and younger children are lifting weights. Perhaps it's the influence of professional wrestling, a wish to look like the "beautiful people," or a desire to excel at sports that has excited this interest. The increased participation in weight lifting has sparked renewed interest in the much debated question of whether this activity is safe for children.
At the annual meeting of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine this issue was discussed.
