The Securities and Exchange Commission is expected to intensify its probe into the omission of crucial data on Big Dig overruns from a state bond prospectus issued last December, sources said yesterday.
Sources familiar with the SEC inquiry said it's likely the federal agency will ultimately issue a "formal order of investigation," empowering local investigators to issue subpoenas for documents, compel testimony and take depositions from witnesses.
"It's very unlikely the SEC will say, 'We don't think there's any need to compel testimony,' " one source familiar with the probe said.
