A MAN jailed for his part in a pounds 10million drugs bust that led to the death of a customs officer had his conviction quashed yesterday.

Brian Silverman - who protested his innocence when he was sent to prison - now faces a possible new trial.

As appeal judges in Edinburgh made their decision yesterday, Silverman - who remains in custody - gestured to his wife that he was "that close" to freedom.
