BIG SABLE PRICE DROP DISPUTED
Fur brokers and manufacturers who attended the 107th edition of the Leningrad International Fur Auction say that the 50 percent drop in sable prices, as indicated from the figures provided by the auction house, was misleading.
Much of the weakness in prices was due to the inferior quality of the goods offered, the furriers say.
They pointed out that the 50 percent drop on top bundles, as noted (page 36, Oct. 29), was compared to the July and January sales, where quality of this merchandise was much higher.
