The spheres of contemporary classical music and jazz aligned successfully on Friday night, the CBSO centre making a fitting venue for what was essentially an evening devoted to the music of saxophonist Julian Arguelles.
The venue's acoustic-altering "blinds" were raised to suit the unamplified purity of the Apollo Saxophone Quartet, lowered to curb the high-volume edge of Julian's forceful Octet.
