For the first time in more than 50 years I was not out on the moors on what used to be known as the Glorious Twelfth. I kept watch from a distance and did not hear one single shot throughout the day.
Over the previous week I had checked on most of the moors under my control in North Antrim and prospects looked anything but encouraging.
As I said in last week's article, winged predators like peregrines and hen harriers are coming under a lot of suspicion in the area. Apart from what I had seen with my own eyes, hill farmers had told me of seeing hen harriers ...
