YEARS ago lilies were associated with births, marriages and death, but today due to high tech breeding programmes lilies have become the flower for many uses throughout the year.

They range in height from less than a foot to more than 6ft and are available in a gorgeous array of colours, some of which are highly fragrant.

The latest developments have seen lilies introduced that have pollen free flowers, meaning they no longer make an awful mess on the tablecloth.
