IN its grimy heyday, the Black Country belched dense smoke from coal mines, lime kilns, foundries, forges and fiery blast furnaces.
It so appalled Queen Victoria that she ordered the blinds pulled down on the royal train to shield her from this roaring bedlam of ironmasters, chainmakers, nailsmiths and glassblowers.
Then the workshops began to close and the hammers that once made the earth shake fell silent, leaving behind a wasteland of industrial dereliction and decay.
But now a miracle has happened... the Black Country is turning GREEN.
