"Feathers. You can say everything with feathers," says Jasper Conran as he waves a hand at the hats, dresses and trouser legs being created by a team busy gluing, sewing and wiring feathers into a head dress.
The scene is the Birmingham Hippodrome. The company is the Birmingham Royal Ballet. The production is a new premier called Arthur. The stress levels are high.
Jasper Conran, better known for his couture designs, is the imagination and the pencil behind the costumes for the ballet created by David Bintley with music by John McCabe.
