If you're under the impression Warren Beatty is receiving the prestigious Irving Thalberg Award tonight at the 72nd annual Academy Awards ceremony to thank him for not running for president and for finally settling down and making the world safe for other men's wives and girlfriends, you may not be alone.
But Beatty, who will be 63 on Thursday, is more than Hollywood's one-and-only playboy intellectual. He's also the only filmmaker in Academy history to have been nominated as producer, director, writer and actor for the same film, and he did it twice ("Heaven Can Wait," 1978, and "Reds," 1981).
