If any artist single-handedly symbolised an era then it must have been Alphonse Mucha - the prince of Art Nouveau.
During a long working life (1860-1939) Mucha was always visualised as the spirit of Paris in the Naughty Nineties and his posters for actresses, and beer, cigarettes and bicycles became synonymous with the aspirations of the Art Nouveau movement.
